Help SLYAA serve kids in Franklin

To the editor:

On behalf of the town of Franklin parents and grandparents I would like to thank the Saranac Lake Young Arts Association for its continued support of the Town of Franklin Summer Youth Program.

In 2019, SLYAA contributed $1,097.67 to our summer program. To date, this generous organization has donated over $10,000 to the town of Franklin — specifically for our youth program.

The Saranac Lake Young Arts Association has allowed the town to continue offer the summer youth program to all area children, not just town of Franklin residents, at no cost to families. The old saying, “You get what you pay for” does not apply in this instance. Because of the unwavering support of SLYAA, not only do kids have something to do; they also have opportunities to develop their creativity and imagination by participating in some really cool stuff!

Just this year we had two talent shows because we all know “Franklin’s Got Talent!” There was Music Day with special guest musicians who played drums and guitar. Each child was invited to give the instruments a try and make their own versions to bring home. Bug Day was a big hit with everyone not only learning about what type of bugs live in our area but also learning to appreciate differences in nature instead of being afraid. Make Your Own Hat Day really brought out individual personalities. Let me say we have some “sparkling” personalities!

As SLYAA kicks off their annual phone-athon fundraiser in the next few weeks, please remember all the positive experiences they provide to youth in the Town of Franklin Summer Youth Program and many other programs in our region.
