Help families have turkey on Thanksgiving

To the editor:

As the fall and winter approach us, we are once again thinking ahead to the holiday season. To many in our community, this can mean angst when it comes to feeding their families. The rising costs of fuel for the winter months can take its toll on the grocery budget, and some families find themselves cutting back to pay for the winter expenses.

The St. Paul’s Food Pantry in Vermontville has always been available to help out with holiday baskets to make Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners pleasant. This year we would like to continue our “tradition” but find ourselves in need of 75 turkeys to make it through the Thanksgiving holiday. We are asking for support from our communities in the towns of Franklin, St. Armand and Brighton to help us reach our goal. We were able to help 71 families at this time last year, but our monthly numbers have been on the increase. We anticipate the need to be greater this year. If you can help, please purchase an extra turkey while doing your own shopping, or send a donation to St. Paul’s Food Pantry, 19 Tyler Road, Vermontville, NY 12989. We can be reached by calling Sara at 518-891-5087 or Shirley at 518-891-3119. Our monthly distribution day is Nov. 14, 3:30 to 5 p.m.

Please help us reach our goal and to make the holidays a little brighter for our neighbors.

Thank you,

Sara Besaw
