Lions Club thanks community for its generosity

To the editor:

On Sunday, Sept. 15 the Saranac Lake Lions Club hosted its inaugural Canned Food Plus Sculpture Contest. The event, chaired by Susan Steen, was planned as a fun way to collect food, personal hygiene items and pet food, which were then donated to the Saranac Lake Interfaith Food Pantry, Grace Pantry at Baldwin House and the Tri-Lakes Humane Society (all local charities).

The Saranac Lake Lions Club would like to take this opportunity to thank the following community members for helping us launch such a successful fundraiser.

First, we’d like to say a very special thank-you to the team members who collected donations then erected such amazing sculptures. We’d also like to thank the spectators who came by to support us, especially those who brought donations.

Thanks to the village of Saranac Lake for letting us use Riverside Park and the folks at Harrietstown Town Hall for being on stand-by in case of rain. We must also thank our judges Tim Northrup of North Woods Engineering, Meg Bernstein from the Adirondack Artists Guild and the Rev. Joann White of the First Presbyterian Church.

And finally, a thank-you to our media sponsors, the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and North Country Public Radio, for helping us to get the word out about this event.

Respectfully submitted,

Paula Lanthier, secretary

Saranac Lake Lions Club
