Clean Up Day in Lake Placid is May 18

To the editor:

Dear fellow Lake Placid residents:

Spring is officially upon us, and it’s time to give back to this beautiful place we call home. Please mark your calendar for the 57th annual Lake Placid Clean Up Day to be held Saturday, May 18. We hope you’ll sign up and pitch in to make Lake Placid neat and clean after a long, snowy winter.

Most of us, as hearty Adirondackers, aren’t afraid of a little rain, so we’ll usually forge ahead. In the unlikely event of thunder and lightning we will make an announcement on WSLP radio and on our Facebook page, Lake Placid Village Clean Up, the day before if we plan to reschedule for the following Saturday, May 25.

Please note that day-of-event registration/check-in will take place down on the lakefront side of Mirror Lake Beach House on Parkside Drive at 9 a.m. For those who want to sign up for a particular location, don’t delay; register early with either Tricia or me, preferably before May 15. Gloves and bags are provided, and scavenger hunt prizes are available. There will be a volunteer picnic following cleanup down by the beach at noon, and once again we will be cheering on the thrill seekers jumping in Mirror Lake for the Plunge for a Cause.

We truly appreciate your support of this family-friendly celebration of spring in Lake Placid. It takes considerable effort on the part of many volunteers, sponsors and visitors alike. We couldn’t do it without your help. Thank you. It means a lot to live in a village that reflects the time and care given by all to make it shine.

Think warm sunny thoughts for May 18! See you out there.
