Lindy Ellis will serve Franklin County

To the editor:

I live on the fringe of Saranac Lake in Essex County, but I lived in Saranac Lake and Harrietstown for 13 years and worked in Franklin County for 30 years. Franklin County continues to hold my interest for the reason that the quality of living and working in our Adirondack communities cannot help but be impacted by neighboring counties. We travel across counties for work, education, health services, recreation and shopping. What once might have been sufficient for local politicians to only represent their very local jurisdictions — for example, Michael Kilroy’s complaints distinguishing northern and southern Franklin County — no longer suffices. We live in the modern age, where such boundary divisions hinder progress. The entry of new actors who bring a different range of experience, skills and most of all vision into our public life is invigorating and gives hope for revitalizing our communities.

One of these new entries is Lindy Ellis, newly appointed to the Franklin County Legislature to fill out the term of Barbara Rice. Lindy Ellis has outstanding skills in project management and development. She is thoughtful, judicious and energetic. Throughout her residence in Saranac Lake she has been engaged in projects that improved community life. She has served on local and county boards that encourage business growth, improve infrastructure and parks, support veterans and keep our roads safe. When she was unexpectedly invited to fill this legislative seat, she saw it as an opportunity to apply her capabilities over a broader range of community need. Lindy Ellis will campaign to extend her service into another term. I, for one, will work for the benefit of my friends and neighbors in Franklin County to help her win that election.
