Democracy in action

To the editor:

I had the opportunity to attend Congresswoman Elise Stefanik’s recent town hall at the Moriah Volunteer Fire Department. This event was an open forum for constituents, and approximately 60 people came out to ask questions of the congresswoman. Congresswoman Stefanik gave her thoughts on issues ranging from gun violence to taxes to the national debt to health care and even stayed later than planned to take more questions from those in attendance.

While I do not agree with her 100 percent of the time, I was pleased to hear that Congresswoman Stefanik remains a strong advocate for our Second Amendment rights. I also found it refreshing that she continues to show her independence on a host of important issues, putting what she believes are the needs of our district first.

The town hall was a respectful dialogue with many people across the political spectrum and Congresswoman Stefanik’s 17th event like this since arriving in office.

I thank the congresswoman for hosting this event in Moriah and everyone who came out with their questions. The event was an excellent example of democracy, and the congresswoman should be commended.
