Uihlein is a great place to spend the holidays

To the editor:

I hope everyone had a merry Christmas and is having a happy new year.

We, the residents here at Elderwood of Uihlein, had a great holiday season. The place was decorated beautifully. The activity people really did a great job. It was very festive.

At Thanksgiving we were given a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Pies — pumpkin, apple, cream — so good. Our families were invited to share with us.

At Christmas our families were invited again to a choice of ham or prime rib dinner with pumpkin roll or chocolate cheesecake.

Chuck and his kitchen crew outdid themselves. They had to cook two nights both times. The activity department planned it as well as helped to serve. The tables were pretty with centerpieces made by the residents. Staff and some of their spouses also volunteered to help serve.

We have a beautiful chapel here. The nuns decorated it. It was like a picture. There is a Mass on Sunday at 10:15 and some through the week. For any resident that wants to go, the staff sees they get there.

We received gifts. The Saranac Adult Center and Shirley came giving gifts. The North Elba Garden Club gave each of us a poinsettia. I can say we had a lovely Christmas.

We are kept busy with activities and entertainment.

The staff is very respectful and caring. You never hear a loud voice. We are well cared for. Lucky to be here.

I think about you seniors out there. This winter has been so bad. Cold and lots of snow. So many worries. If it gets too much for you, call Jamie at Will Rogers. It’s a wonderful place to live. The staff is very respectful. The other residents are like family. No shopping. No cooking. No dishes. Laundry done and apartment cleaned. Check it out. It’s affordable.

God bless,
