To the editor:

1. Robert H. Boyle — Sports Illustrated writer who loved fishing and the Hudson River. Formed the Hudson River Fisherman’s Association to help clean it up. Wrote book, “Hudson River,” about same.

2. Jimmy Piersall — Major League Baseball player who suffered from bipolar disorder. Subject of movie “Fear Strikes Out.”

3. Adam West — TV’s Batman, Gotham’s campy caped crusader.

4 John Collins — fifth-grade teacher at Long Lake whose family ran The Hedges resort in Blue Mountain Lake. APA member and chair who brought humor to the job. “If the aerial spraying killed any black flies, a lot of their cousins came to the funeral.”

5. Stephen Furst — played Kent “Flounder” Dorfman in the “Animal House” movie and Dr. Elliot Axelrod on the “St. Elsewhere” TV series.

6. Daryl Imhoff — NBA center who led Cal to the 1959 NCAA title. Played with Jerry West and Oscar Robinson on the 1960 Olympic team. Was the starting center for the Knicks when Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points for Philly on March 2, 1962.

7. Gene Conley — backed up Bill Russell at center for the 1960 Boston Celtics and pitched for the 1961 Boston Red Sox.

8. Babe Parilli — QB at Kentucky for Bear Bryant. Played professionally for 15 years. Prototype for Joe Namath.

9. Lee May — first baseman for Cincinnati’s Big Red Machine.

10. Jeanne Moreau — French film actress.

11. Sam Shepard — actor, playwright and partner of actress Jessica Lange.

12. George Canon — Newcomb town supervisor who saved Camp Santanoni.

13. Ara Parseghian — former Notre Dame football coach whose teams won national titles in 1966 and 1973.
