Sad to see Bloomingdale church closed

To the editor:

How sad to drive by St. Paul’s Church in Bloomingdale and see it closed. The remark was made that the church is only a building. To me, it is the first place we go to be baptized when we are an infant. We go to confess our sins and ask for forgiveness. We go to be confirmed, where we pledge to be strong and faithful Christians. We go to stand and take our vows to God in marriage. When life is ended, we return one last time, when a Mass is said for us. So to me, it is so much more than a building. Our churches have a tabernacle which hold the sacred hosts, which is really what the Mass is about. No, it is far more than just a building, which should remain open.

With all due respect,

Betty Columbe

Bloomingdale

P.S.: Now I hear that the statue behind St. Paul’s Church is going to St. Bernard’s School. Why not to St. Paul’s Cemetery in Bloomingdale? Why has St. Paul’s lost so much?
