To the editor:

It is rare in the current political arena to find a candidate for office in whom I am able to say without reservation that I feel 100 percent confident in his or her ability to lead, based upon their record. Such is the case with candidate Col. Mike Derrick for New York’s 21st Congressional District.

Mike’s 28-year service in hotspots around the world, in both active and reserve U.S. Army forces, speaks for itself. As a retired soldier, he understands what it means and what is required to serve one’s country. After he retired, Mike went on to serve as a consultant to the Department of State.

Beyond his outstanding service record, Mike is a local; he grew up in the North Country. And as a family man married for 28 years and with four children, he knows what’s important to the families of our region.

Mike’s clear about his reasons for seeking office. He has experienced and understands the challenges and responsibilities of leadership. He will work hard to make sure that the communities of our region are well represented and are given every opportunity to thrive and grow.

As Mike stated in a recent tweet, “It’s time to return this seat to the people who live here.”
