Thank you, Judge Meyer

To the editor:

Over the summer I was selected for jury duty for a criminal case tried in the Essex County Courthouse presided over by the Honorable Judge Richard Meyer. Over 400 potential jurors were interviewed for this case, and the process took over three days to complete. During this time, Judge Richard Meyer was an amazing presence and force in the courtroom as both the prosecution and defense teams conducted questioning. Judge Meyer listened carefully to everyone and showed responsible judgments for whom to release from this particular duty.

From the start, Judge Meyer managed the courtroom like a pro, facilitating the legal teams and us jurors to work through this case. It was evident to me that he had tremendous experience with, and command of, the intricacies of the law and an acute ability to communicate thus. During this two-week-long case, Judge Meyer showed competence, fairness, compassion, patience, respect, humility and appropriate humor paired with an intense commitment to uphold the law. Judge Meyer presides over a variety of courts in Essex County, and from my experience in his courtroom, I know he works tirelessly and is dedicated to the important work and outcomes of our judicial system.

Thank you, Judge Richard Meyer, for your continued excellent service to the people of Essex County and for making the juror experience a valuable and significant life lesson! I will vote for you in the upcoming November election, and I urge all readers to do the same! Judge Richard Meyer has the experience and serious demeanor required to uphold the law, civility and fairness in a courtroom of your peers. Please vote for Judge Richard Meyer so to ensure these important civil rights will be honored.
