Glad Stefanik opposes Iran deal

To the editor:

I felt compelled to write in response to a recent letter to the editor regarding Democrat congressional candidate Mike Derrick’s stance on the Iran deal – the same deal he did not have a public stance on before coming out publicly in support of it.

Iran is the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world, funneling tens of millions of dollars to terrorist groups each year. Here in NY-21, we are blessed to have Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division – the most deployed unit in the U.S. Army whose forces have been killed by such well-funded terrorists. If you are a member of this community, you do not have to look far to see Fort Drum’s reach or importance to this region. The deal with Iran is not only a threat to our national security but a threat to the soldiers who live and work right here in our community.

It is truly unfortunate that those seeking higher office do not understand the dynamics of our region. Thankfully, our current representative understands such dynamics and has pledged to vote against this dangerous bill. Our congresswoman understands we cannot put the interests of our enemies before those of our allies, and she also knows this bill is ultimately a threat to our long-term national security interests. For this, we are thankful she is opposing this bill.
