Businesses have to maximize profits

To the editor:

Recently someone brought up the issue of how employers treat their employees in the Lake Placid region, specifically that such treatment was negative.

In Essex County, there are many capital-generating businesses based on seasonal tourism, with long periods in between of little or no business at all.

So if you’re a business owner here, you must make decisions based on maximum profit, Capitalism 101. Are those decisions always going to benefit all parties considered? Sometimes not.

Companies here are not perfect, just like companies all over the U.S. for one reason or another. Though some aren’t really bad at all – in fact, I happen to work for an excellent one right here in Lake Placid.

Truth is, here we are responsible for our own financial destinies, and in that, we are like our own companies. If maximum profit’s not being had for you here, move to somewhere it is. Don’t complain at someone else’s success; make your own!
