Thank you, Logan

If anyone needed a reminder of why Saranac Lake is such a great place to live, one big reason was on display on Thursday.

In the middle of a weekday, in 20-degree weather, hundreds of Saranac Lakers came out to support a 14-year-old from Oswego County, Logan Baugh, and play a part in making his wish come true.

Baugh wanted to use his wish from the Make-A-Wish Foundation to stay in an Adirondack cabin and have a pizza party at the Ice Palace.

Even though Winter Carnival is over, and the Ice Palace was demolished, the Make-A-Wish Foundation — and this community — made things happen. The Winter Carnival Committee deserves a lot of credit for pulling everything together, building as much of a palace for Logan as they safely could, and making this experience amazing not only for Logan, but for all of us who got to witness it.

Logan and his family were able to join the Winter Carnival Court on a float in a mini-recreation of the annual Gala Parade.

Despite the parade starting later than expected, so many people stayed, waited and lined the streets with signs with Logan’s name. The Lawn Chair Ladies, the Canoodlers, St. Bernard’s School, New York State Police, the Winter Carnival Court and Saranac Lake’s firefighters and police officers made this mini parade so fun.

We hope Logan’s wish came true as he envisioned it, and we hope that he and his family enjoyed their time in Saranac Lake.

We also want to thank Logan and his family. Logan, your wish brought so much joy to us here in Saranac Lake. Winter Carnival is so much more than events and fireworks, more than the sum of its parts. It’s the Winter Carnival spirit that makes it so special. With your wish, you brought back the Winter Carnival spirit for one more day. It was wonderful.
