Who else is excited to watch some curling matches at the Civic Center during the FISU World University Games? Curling has a long history here in Saranac Lake, and was played both indoors and out. The first indoor curling rink was built in 1918, and before that, curlers met on Moody Pond and Lake Flower to face off outdoors as early as 1897. This photograph shows a group of curlers on Moody Pond, including C. M. Palmer and Walter Cluett. Stop by the Saranac Laboratory Museum starting Friday for a mini exhibit on curling history in Saranac Lake! The mini exhibit is included with regular admission. Happy curling!
