Have you seen?

Stop by to view a display in the lobby case provided by the staff of Historic Saranac Lake celebrating the recent publication of “A Rare Romance in Medicine: The Life and Legacy of Edward Livingston Trudeau” by Mary Hotaling. The display also marks Dr. Trudeau’s 168th birthday on Oct. 5. Items from the Saranac Laboratory Museum include an early microscope, a bust of the doctor and a manuscript of his autobiography from 1915.

Don’t miss the Halloween bears in the Children’s Room Display Case, wearing masks and surrounded by festive pumpkins, ghosts and bats–thanks to Margret Wordon and Steve Sonnenberg.

Electronic Books

Many SLFL patrons are enjoying the convenience and ease of using eBooks. Many titles are available in eBook format through ecollection.cefls.org, where tutorials are available. A variety of devices can be used, such as a computer, Kindle, Nook, iPhone and Android.

Using Overdrive, you can search by title, subject and author. Be sure to use the correct format for your device. Books check out on your library card (and with your library pin number) for two weeks and automatically expire at the end of the lending period-so there are no late fees!

Since there is only one copy of an eBook, you will have to place a hold, if the book is already checked out. This is the same as placing a request on a physical book. When the eBook becomes available, you will be notified by email.

In September 149 eBooks were downloaded by SLFL patrons.
