Shawn E. Winch

Shawn E. Winch died unexpectedly at his home on May 26, 2023.

Shawn was born on March 14, 1979 to Pamela R. Winch, who single-handedly raised him in Wilmington. Shawn grew up loving sports and excelling at baseball. He was a member of the Lake Placid Central School 1994 NYSPHSAA Class D State Champion team. He continued his love of sports following the New York Islanders and New York Mets. Even though he wasn’t much for a crowd, he took as many road trips as he could to support his teams and see Matt Martin and Matt Barzel take the ice.

Shawn went from working on the bobsled track at Mount Van Hoevenberg to becoming a bobsled driver. Even though driving fast on a track made of ice was something Shawn loved, in 2007 he left the bobrun and joined the Department of Corrections to serve his community as a guard until 2016. In 2015, Shawn’s son was born and he made changes to his career path so he could be on a baby-friendly schedule and focus on his newest adventure. He returned to the bobrun running heavy equipment until 2021 and then he moved on to work in maintenance at Citizen Advocates.

Shawn is survived by his mother, Pamela R. Winch; his fiancee and shotgun rider Christie Mullarney; their son and his best bud Eeston; and his bonus children Hunter and Gabriel Sawyer. In addition, aunts Cathy Burdick, Tammy Dadds and Lynn Miller; uncle Donald (Howie) and Kim Peck; and his cousins that were more like siblings, Nicole Matthews and Wyatt Peck, along with many other cousins and friends. Shawn was predeceased by his grandparents Bea and Don Peck and his uncles Larry LaMarque and Teddy LaMarque.

There will be a celebration of life set for a later date. The M. B. Clark, Inc., funeral home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service.
