Rita Helen Coppinger

Rita Helen Coppinger, 68, of Lake Placid, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

She was born in Lake Placid on Nov. 6, 1952, the daughter of Kenneth and Helen (Reynolds) Planty.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and a lifelong resident of Lake Placid. She was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, Class of 1971, and a charter member of the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Placid Memorial Hospital and Uihlein Mercy Center before working in food preparation at the Olympic Training Center and St. Agnes School.

Her passion was cooking. Especially when it came to baking for the holidays, birthday cakes and wedding cakes.

Survivors include her husband, John Coppinger, of Lake Placid; son Adam Planty and wife Maria of Charlotte, North Carolina; stepdaughters Andrea Oles and husband Clayton of Hyde Park, New York, and Stephanie Webster and husband Jim of Poughkeepsie; sister Janeatte Pratt and her husband Kent of Lake Placid; brother Kenneth Planty Jr. and his wife Linda of Lake Placid; nephew Matthew Planty and his wife Shyanne, who was her closest friend of Lake Placid; and several other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins.

Calling hours were held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 29 at M. B. Clark, Inc., 2310 Saranac Ave., Lake Placid.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30 at Adirondack Community Church, 2583 Main St., Lake Placid, with the Rev. Derek H. Hansen officiating. Burial will follow in the North Elba Cemetery.
