Mary E. Saulpaugh (Lalonde)

Mary E. Saulpaugh (Lalonde) died on July 23, 2019, at Elderwood of Uihlein in Lake Placid after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer.

Mary was born in 1933 in Lake Placid, the daughter of Larry and Nellie (Smith) O’Connell.

She attended Lake Placid High School and Albany Business College. After college she worked at the New York State Police Crime Lab in Albany before returning to Lake Placid, where she worked for several local physicians, Northwood School and the U.S. Olympic Training Center. She spent the majority of her career working in the personnel department at Uihlein Mercy Center.

Mary was actively involved with charity work through her life. She was a founding member of the Ecumenical Food Pantry, where she made many friends. She was a Mercy Care Volunteer for the ministry of the Sisters of Mercy. She was also a Mercy Associate, following the ministry of the Sisters of Mercy. She enjoyed the outdoors, travelling and spending much time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by one son, Mike Saulpaugh and his wife Eileen of Lake Placid; four grandchildren: Matthew, Michael and Nicholas of Lake Placid and Daniel (Kelsey) of New York City; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Lalonde, her parents, and one sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Bill Mullarney.  

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25 at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at noon Friday, July 26 at the Reiss Family Memorial Chapel at Elderwood of Uihlein. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery in Lake Placid.
