Richard K. Barney

He was born May 28, 1946, in Utica, a son of Ora and Cecelia Barney.

Richard graduated from Lake Placid High School in the Class of 1964. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army. After serving his country for four years, Sgt. Richard Barney then married the love of his life, Gail Barney, and shared 50 wonderful years together.

He loved to bowl, boating and hunting with his sons. He also loved his rat terriers Bullet and Misty.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife Gail, sisters Barbara and Ginger, and his grandson Lance A. Sawyer ll. 

He is survived by his daughter Crystal Sawyer and fiance Brad Craig of Durham; sons Richard K. Barney ll and his wife Joni of Pulaski, and William J. Barney and fiance Stephanie Plummer of Carrboro; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers John of Lake Placid and Robert of Sanford, North Carolina; and many sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life for Richard and Gail will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Pulaski on July 20.
