Marian E. Schmidt

  Born in Brooklyn on Nov. 22, 1928, she was the daughter of Edwin and Winnie (Hurlbut) Torkelson. Marian married Ernest Schmidt on Nov. 21, 1948, in Baldwin.

  Marian co-owned and operated the Sara Placid Liquor store in Saranac Lake and also was a co-owner of the Resort Feed and Seed Store in Saranac Lake. She was a member and past president of the Saranac Lake Women’s Civic Chamber. She also volunteered for the Saranac Lake Paint and Pallette Art Association and was a Girl Scout leader in New Jersey for many years.

  She is survived by her husband Ernest of Saranac Lake; three sons: Donald (Barbara) Schmidt of Saranac Lake, Rick (Debbie) Schmidt of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Steven (Mickey) Schmidt of Saranac Lake; one sister, Virginia Carter of Florida; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Christine Ann Mecklenburg; two brothers, David and Edwin Torkelson; and one sister, Edith Enright.

  Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Funeral services will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
