Barbara A. Pickering

Barbara A. Pickering, 82, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

She was born on Feb. 13, 1936, in Sutton, Vermont, to Roy and Winona (Niles) LaClair. She married Marvin R. Pickering on Feb. 11, 1955, and raised their family in Piercefield.

She worked for many years as a certified nursing assistant at Mercy Hospital and later as a home health aide for Franklin County Home Services and private home care.

Barbara was also a member of the Piercefield Ladies Auxiliary, the Red Hats, St. Lawrence County Board of Elections and TOPS.

After retiring, Barb enjoyed being “Grandma” at Holy Ghost Academy.

She loved camping, traveling and hobbies including cooking, baking, beading, knitting and crocheting. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by her husband Marvin; one brother, Luke LaClair of Tupper Lake; children: Lannie (Anna) Pickering of Walden, Colorado, Marva (Willie) Crothers of Tucson, Arizona, Neil (Linda) Pickering of Piercefield, Marvin (Kim) Pickering of Piercefield and Paula (John) Smith of Greenwich; grandchildren: Eric, Abby (Marty), Andrew (Erika), Kevin (Nicole), Willow, Marley and Lacey; and great-grandchildren: Gracie, Lyla, Oliver, Emerson, Keegan, Pasha, Vova and Rory and Damien.

Barbara was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Neil.

Calling hours are scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, followed by a funeral service at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. Burial will be in Gale Cemetery in May.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Piercefield Volunteer Fire Department.
