Thomas ‘Tombo’ B. Cassavaugh

Thomas “Tombo” Bruce Cassavaugh, 10, of Lenoir, North Carolina, died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Levine Children’s Hospital, Charlotte.

He was born June 27, 2004 in Caldwell County to Thomas P. Cassavaugh and Elizabeth Drum Chester. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Bruce Douglas Drum.

Thomas was a big fan of the Hibriten Panthers and dreamed of playing football for them. The Panthers made him an honorary member. He attended Gamewell Elementary and Davenport School. Thomas loved the beach and enjoyed duck hunting. He was also a NASCAR, monster truck and go-kart enthusiast.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include stepfather Eric Reid of Oak Hill; brothers: Michael Cole Chester and Lucas Kayne Chester of Oak Hill; paternal grandparents Thomas P. and Mary Lou Cassavaugh of Bloomingdale; and maternal grandmother Barbara West Drum of Gamewell.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today at Hartland Baptist Church, Morganton, North Carolina, conducted by Dr. Todd Smith and the Rev. Larry Lanonico. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Drum, Cole Chester, Lucas Chester, Hunter Livingston, William Cassavaugh, Michael Cassavaugh, Steven Watson and Dale Rascoe. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Cassavaugh, Cale Cassavaugh, Alex Cassavaugh, Montana Hartzog, Zerden Keller, Emma Drum, Thomas Reid, Fisher Livingston and Zaya Lipford.
