Lewis J. DeFuria

Lewis J. DeFuria, 69, of 25 Sunset Road, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, May 16, 2015, at Adirondack Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Miami, Florida, on Sept. 9, 1945, he was the son of Joseph and Phyllis (Beseth) DeFuria. He married Josephine Mihill on May 1, 1971, at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake.

Lou had been employed at Franklin-Hamilton-Essex BOCES in Saranac Lake for 13 years until his retirement in 2007. He loved building model airplanes and watching old movies. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Josephine DeFuria of Saranac Lake; one son, Joseph DeFuria and his wife Jessie of Saranac Lake; one daughter, Rebecca Meyers of Kingston; one brother, Barry DeFuria of Saranac Lake; four grandchildren: Whitney, Brandon Faith and Michael; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. (Editor’s note: The day of the calling hours has been corrected.) A funeral service will immediately follow at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
