Raymond E. Poirier

Raymond E. Poirier, 78, of 8226 State Route 3, Vermontville, died Saturday, March 7, 2015, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid.

Born in Tupper Lake on Dec. 14, 1936, he was the son of Edmond and Hazel (LaBarge) Poirier. Raymond married Mary Losey on Dec. 27, 1961, in St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake.

Raymond is a lifelong resident of the area and had worked as a projectionist at the drive-in theater in Tupper Lake and then at the Pontiac movie theater in Saranac Lake. He later worked as the building superintendent at the Dechantel Apartment Building for over 27 years until his retirement in 1998.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Mary Jean Poirier of Vermontville; two daughters: Tina Marie Merkle of Tupper Lake and Jill Marie Massey of Goldsbourgh, North Carolina; five grandchildren; one great-grandson and one brother Robert Poirier of Idaho.

He was preceded in death by one son Stephen Poirier, and one sister, Ruth Lagoy.

Calling hours will take place from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday, March 12 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will immediately follow calling hours at 7:45 p.m. at the funeral home with Msgr. C.J. McAvoy officiating. Burial will take place in St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake in the spring.
