Ruth H. Laundry

Ruth H. Laundry, 94, formerly of Loon Lake, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at home in Morrisonville.

Born in Union Falls on April 23, 1920, she was the daughter of Walter and Marguerite (Collins) Hough. Ruth married Harold “Mickey” Laundry on Jan. 11, 1941. He predeceased her on Dec. 11, 1989.

Mrs. Laundry was a lifelong resident of the area who, along with her husband, owned and operated the Pine Grove Restaurant in Loon Lake for 28 years, retiring in 1985. She was town of Franklin tax collector for many years. Mrs. Laundry loved to crochet and garden. She was known to make the best hamburger in the North Country. She especially loved her Yorkshire terrier dogs.

She is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Roger (Nancy) Angelkorte of Avon, Ohio and Mrs. James (Wanda) Layhee of Morrisonville; a son, Wayne Thomas Laundry of Noxon, Montana; one sister, Mildred Singleton of Colonie; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Stickney; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; her beloved caregivers Kathy and Mike Collins; and her dog Dandee.

She was predeceased by three brothers Gerald, Burtis and Harold Hough.

Calling hours will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10 at St. Paul’s Church in Bloomingdale, with the Rev. Thomas Higman officiating. Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Bloomingdale in the spring.
