Lucy J. Loughran

Lucy J. Loughran, 68, passed away at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014.

She was born on July 11, 1946, the daughter of Patrick J and Janet J. (Giles) Loughran. She attended P.S. 166 public school in the west side Manhattan and St. Gregory the Great Catholic School.

The family moved to Jay in August 1956 and she attended Au Sable Forks Central School for a short time. In 1957, the family moved to Wilmington. She graduated from Lake Placid Central School in June 1966. In July 1966, she graduated from Business Machine School as a business machine operator.

She worked at Placid Memorial Hospital in Lake Placid as accounts receivable N.C.R. bookkeeper from 1968 to 1983, when she attended North Country Community College and graduated as a licensed practical nurse. Lucy married William H. Umber Jr. in 1971 and had one son, Sean, on June 17, 1975. The couple divorced in 1996. Lucy Married William P. Pope in 1968. The couple divorced in May 2001.

In January 1989, she worked for Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid as charge nurse L.P.N. She retired form Uihlein Mercy Center in June 2002 due to a diabetes disability.

Lucy is survived by her son, Sean Umber and wife April; stepchildren Michael, Donald and Tami of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; brother, Eugene and wife Billie Loughran of Wilmington; nephew Bradford Loughran, wife Gloria and great-nephew, Grayson Loughran of Derby, Vermont; nephew Morse Loughran and wife Kelly and step grandnephew Cole of Plattsburgh; brother Patrick Loughran and niece, Erin of Kingston; and a very close friend and caregiver Shanna Swem of Colcester, Vermont.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family at Haselton Cemetery in Wilmington.
