Charles B. ‘Red’ Hill

Charles B. “Red” Hill, 91, of West Crescent passed away on Nov. 26, 2014, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

Born on May 12, 1923, in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Charles and Maude Hill. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy; his daughter Cynthia Hill Bossard; and his sisters Doris Subcliff, Jeanne Lavin and Leona Martin.

He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army-Air Force, stationed in North Africa and Italy, and was a charter member of the American Legion Post 1450 in Halfmoon. Red worked as the fleet maintenance supervisor for Grand Union in Waterford for 30 years. He was a longtime resident of West Crescent, summer resident of Fish Creek Park in the Adirondacks and spent many winters in Florida. His larger-than-life character will be a great loss, not just his family but to friends and acquaintances near and far.

He is survived by his daughter Susan (Lester Birenbaum) Hill of Glen Rock, N.J., his son Mark (Jean) Hill of Clifton Park, grandchildren Alec Birenbaum, Nicholas and Michael Hill, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Darlene Dedee for her commitment, care and support in her role as caregiver and friend.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Catricala Funeral Home Inc., 1597 Route 9, Clifton Park, with a graveside service at 10 a.m. Monday in the Clifton Park Village Cemetery.
