Pauline Magrino

TUPPER LAKE – Pauline Magrino, 89, of Tupper Lake, passed away, Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont.

Born June 26, 1925, in Churubusco, she was the daughter of Leopold and Blanche (Mathieu) Gervais. She graduated from Franklin Academy in 1944 and went on to attend the Nurses Cadet Corps of Plattsburgh State Teachers College. She received her degree in nursing in 1947. She began her nursing career at Alice Hyde hospital and went on to Sunmount VA in Tupper Lake. She retired from Sunmount DDSO in 1984.

On Oct. 2, 1948, she married Robert Magrino at St. Joseph Church in Malone. He died on July 22, 1991.

Pauline later went on to work at Kinney Drugs as a cashier and retired after 19 years in 2013. Very active in the community, she was a volunteer for High Peaks Hospice and Family Champions. She attended daily Mass and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by four children: two daughters, Susan Virostek and her husband Robert of Tupper Lake, and Jana Ormsby and her husband Jonathon of Peru, and two sons, Anthony Scott Magrino of Tupper Lake and Robert Jr. and his wife Susie of Frisco, Colorado. Also surviving are grandchildren: Reagan Phelan, Mark Raymond, Nicholas Virostek, Rebecca Murphy, Sarah Filion and Garrett “Sonny” Magrino; five great-grandchildren: Michael and Matthew Phelan, Reese and Sydney Raymond and Logan Robert Murphy; and one sister, Jeanne Fitzsimmons of Malone.

She was predeceased by her husband; two brothers, Matthew and Norman; and one sister, Antionette Gervais.

Calling hours are scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 12 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on noon Monday at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
