John W. Barton

John W. Barton, 58 of 43 Water St., Tupper Lake, formerly of Malone, died at his home on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, after a long illness.

Born on Sept. 14, 1956, he was the son of Curtis W. Barton, and Eleanor (Yando), Barton, both of which predeceased him. John attended Notre Dame School in Malone, and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1974. He attended Canton OTC and SUNY Plattsburgh.

He married Lorna (Skiff) on Dec. 10, 1994.

John worked at Sunmount DDSO for many years, and was given the nickname “Big Daddy,” which is what most people who knew John called him. He and his wife were members of Holy Name Church. He enjoyed golfing, watching sports with his friends, and his sons, and hosting poker games at his home.

He is survived by his wife; two sons: Dylan C. Barton of Tupper Lake and Thomas H. Barton, also of Tupper Lake; one sister, Mrs. Kathy (Barton) Mongeon and her husband Richard of Malone; an aunt, Shirley Yando, also of Malone; his father-in-law, Isaac Skiff, of Bloomingdale; two sister-in-laws: Judy(Skiff) Natoli and her husband Steven of North Carolina and Barbara Skiff of Saranac Lake; two brother-in-laws: John Skiff and his wife Linda, and Terry Skiff of Tennessee; and many cousins, nieces, nephews.

Calling hours are scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home with a small service at 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the wishes of the family.
