Scott ‘Cougar’ Cassidy
LAKE WORTH, Florida – It is with much sadness that we, as a family, announce the sudden death of our brother and devoted uncle Scott “Cougar” Cassidy.
Scott died May 3, 2014, in Lake Worth, Florida, where he had lived and thrived for nearly 40 years. Scott was born in Lake Placid on Christmas Day, 1952. He was 62 years old. He was the third son of the late Gerald F. Cassidy and the late Frances Lundrigan Cassidy.
Scott is survived by his two brothers and closest friends: Rik Cassidy from Lake Placid and Gerry from Sacramento, California; his three loving sisters: Diane Cassidy Richie of Niskayuna, Linda Cassidy Scheefer (Robert) of Saranac Lake and Vero Beach, Florida, and Kathleen Cassidy Pallotta (Vito) of Vero Beach, Florida, and Silver Lake.
Scott was the “Greatest Uncle Ever” to his many nephews and nieces, and many more great-nieces and -nephews.
As a child, Scott, unlike the family’s traditional sport, hockey, took up ski jumping! Cougar soared on the jumps behind the high school. His brothers teased him relentlessly, calling him the name in ski jumping made famous in the sport, Torger Tokle. He wanted to be “Cougar, not Torger,” and he was Cougar forevermore!
Scott graduated from Lake Placid High School in 1972 and was soon beginning a life in Florida, where he found his true calling in the antique business. His small business turned big business was his pride and joy, and he bought and sold around the world. He was known nationwide for his gift to find just the right find for his hundreds of buyers, some international. And it was a “gift”; he was a master at collecting!
Scott always enjoyed life to the fullest with friends and family. He was generous, kind, gentle soul, a true friend and a devoted family member. He was also a true Placidian, a native son! He loved Lake Placid and the life he had in it.
Cougar loved his DOGS, especially boxers! Fortunately he joins them all with both our parents, and several doting aunts and uncles. His beloved cousin Danny Gilles predeceased him but will be right there waiting anxiously for his arrival. Wherever that is, there will be FUN to be had by all!
The two together again makes us SMILE! Peace, you two, until we meet again!
There will be a memorial service this summer to be announced for friends and family. As a family we would like to thank Will Rogers assisted living in Saranac Lake and Mercy Care in Tupper Lake for taking incredible care of our late mother, Frances, so she got to heaven first, so she can be there to reunite Scott with our beloved Dad.
