Roger F. Sochia

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Roger F. Sochia, 71, of 15 Old Bend Road, Moreau, died March 14, 2014, at Glens Falls Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born Feb. 7, 1943, in Malone. He was the son of the late Everett L. and Helen (Sather) Sochia.

Roger was a 1961 graduate of Saranac Lake High School and Delhi Tech in 1963. He was employed as a carpenter/millwright with Hercules Inc. from 1965-1979, Ciba Geigy from 1979-1989 and Finch Pruyn from 1991-2006. He retired at that time. He enjoyed hunting, fishing on his pontoon boat, canoeing, camping and spending time with his family, especially with his grandsons and his beagle, Mandy.

On Sept. 28, 1963, he married the love of his life, Therese Norman. They enjoyed 50 wonderful years together.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Therese; his daughter, Pamela Sochia of Montour Falls; twin grandsons: Ryan Roger Sochia and Derek Everett Sochia; brother Bernard Sochia (Susan) of Paul Smiths; sisters Diana Hill (Gregory) of Saranac Lake and Judith Gonyea (Paul) of Rome, N.Y.; uncle Kenneth Sather (Joan) of St. Regis Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his brother Everett L. Sochia Jr.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. At Roger’s request, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at noon Friday, May 23 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Lake Clear.

Roger’s family would like to thank the outstanding medical staff of the C.R. Wood Cancer Center, Dr. John Stoutenburg and Lauren Cabana, Pa., and the outstanding staff of Tower 2 at Glens Falls Hospital for the excellent care and compassion given to Roger and his family.
