Earl Joseph Fletcher

Earl Joseph Fletcher, 87, went home to the Lord, Tuesday, April 8, 2014.

Born Aug. 27, 1926, in Sugar Bush, Mr. Fletcher was the son of Howard and Jenny Mae (Macy) Fletcher. Earl attended local schools, graduated from Tupper Lake High School and was a proud member for the undefeated 1944 winning football team. He served in the United States Army during 1946-47. He was self-employed all his life, first as a logger, then at Fletcher’s Scrap Metal and Recycling, and more recently in the container business.

Earl served as a trustee for the village of Tupper Lake then as mayor for two terms in the ’80s. He was a faithful member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine (McCauley), daughter Karen (John) Walker of Utica and Cherry Valley, and sons Gerald (Tracy) of Tupper Lake and Donald (Kelley) of Halfmoon. He also leaves six grandchildren: Samantha Walker, Joshua, Elliott, Maeve, Peyton and Quinn Fletcher; sisters Mary Chapman and Dorothy Jagiello; brother James and special sister-in-law Jean Bourbeau.

Mr. Fletcher was predeceased by two sons, Jeffrey and John, sister Leona and brothers Leo, Raymond and Donald.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 11 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 24 Cliff Ave., Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12 at St. Alphonsus Church, 48 Wawbeek Ave., Tupper Lake. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations in Earl’s memory to St. Alphonsus Church.
