Richard Bernard Poulin

Born Jan. 16, 1925, in Waterville, Maine, he was the son of Helen (Walsh) and Herbert Poulin.

He was married on July 5, 1952, at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake to Louise King.

Richard attended St. Mary’s school in Amsterdam. He then entered the Army on April 10, 1943, until March 27, 1946. During this time in the service he worked as a dental technician. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he attended Niagara University, then Siena College and Potsdam State to acquire his master’s degree. He worked at Tupper Lake Central School as the department chair head until he retired after 30 years of service.

Richard enjoyed watching his Boston Bruins, St. Lawrence hockey, fishing with great friends in Girdwood, Indian and Sterling, Alaska, and spending time in hunting camp, as well as spending time with his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his sister, Patricia Poulin; son Thomas Poulin and his wife Marsha (La Fountain) Poulin of Tupper Lake; daughter Patricia (Poulin) Back and her husband David Beck; grandson Christopher Poulin and his wife Renee (Lemieux) Poulin of Saranac Lake; granddaughters Sarah Poulin of Tupper Lake and Erin (Buchanan) Lopez and her husband, Derek Lopez, and their children Tyler and Lily Lopez of Fairfield, Conn.; and grandson Richard Root of Florida.

He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Herbert., and his brothers Alton, Donald, Neil and Calvin Poulin.

Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral home in Tupper Lake, followed by a funeral service in his honor held at St. Alphonsus Church at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the parish center at the Holy Ghost Academy.
