Lawrence M. Wood

Lawrence M. Wood, 81, of Lake Placid, passed away peacefully Friday, March 7, 2014 at his home in Lake Placid. Mr. Wood was born Jan. 13, 1933, in Saranac Lake.

He was the son of Clifton and Evelyn (Casselman) Wood. He married Barbara Maynard, his wife of 53 years, in St. Agnes Church, Lake Placid.

He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He was employed by the U.S. post office, Lake Placid, as a mail carrier. He also worked for several years at the Sterling Alaska Fur and Game Farm, Home of 1,000 Animals. He loved spending time with his family, tinkering in his shop and around his home on countless projects. He also enjoyed woodworking, was a dedicated member of the NRA, and in his spare time he loved to watch hockey and boxing.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara (Maynard) Wood of Lake Placid; his mother, Evelyn (Casselman) Wood of Riverview, Saranac; four sons, David Wood of Lake Placid, Larry Wood and his wife Patti of Lake Placid, Michael Wood and his wife Marcy of Saranac, and Paul Wood of Saranac. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Matthew, Jessica and Abagail Wood; four step-grandchildren: Jason, Erica, Kristy and Megan; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one sister, Barbara Roberts, and her husband Francis Roberts.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 10 at the M.B. Clark Inc. Funeral Home, 2310 Saranac Ave., Lake Placid, with an American Legion prayer service at 8:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Tuesday, March 11 at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. The Rev. John Yonkovig will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Lake Placid, in May.
