Shawana M. Alford

Shawana Monike Alford, 35, of 54 Trudeau Road, Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Brooklyn on July 22, 1978, she was the daughter of Pearley Alford.

In 2008, Shawana moved to the Adirondacks to be close to friends. Once she was here, she found much joy in the open skies for basking in the sun on warm summer days and beautiful scenery. She could often be found taking pictures and scrapbooking.

Shawana was a member of Saranac Lake’s Adirondack Baptist Church as well as the library. Her true love in life was music. She had an eclectic taste and unique song of her own. Shawana was a calm soul, a true breath of fresh air. She will be greatly missed by many.

Calling hours will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A memorial service will immediately follow at 4 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Jeff Grey officiating. Burial will take place in the spring.

Friends wishing to remember Shawana M. Alford may make memorial contributions to High Peaks Hospice in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their memories and sign the online guestbook at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
