Paul L. Strack

He was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Lake Placid, the son of Charles and Susie (Hinds) Strack.

While serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, he earned a Purple Heart during World War II, serving in France and Germany. He was a devoted employee for 32 years at National Lead Industries. Prior to joining National Lead Industries, he was a logger. He, in fact, was part of the crew that cut the logs that would form Johns Brook Lodge.

Mr. Strack was married to Mary F. Sabourin in Lake Placid while serving in the Army. Together they had six children who survive him. His children are Larry Strack from Middleburgh, Theresa Strack (Howard Malloy) from Titusville, Fla., Shyamala Strack from Atlanta, Ga., Sheila Poirier (Curtis) from Charlotte, N.C., Jeffrey Strack from Glens Falls and Tracy Strack (Greta) from Virginia Beach, Va.

Following the death of his first wife, Mary, he married Jean Yando and was a surrogate father to her six children. The surviving children are David Yando (Gina) from Seattle, Wash., Donnie Yando (Cristal) from Vermontville, Julie Miner (Mark) from West Chazy, Mary Sargeant from Morrisville, Paula Manning (David) from Gansevoort and Brent Yando from Florida. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren are numerous.

In addition to enjoying his family, he loved to play golf; over the years, hitting two holes in one. He loved bowling. He lovingly built rock walls enjoyed by friends and family. He was a devoted member and volunteer at the Tupper Lake Christian Center.

He was loved dearly by all of his children, stepchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The last year of his life he was cared for with much love by his granddaughter, Paula.

Calling hours were held on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper?Lake. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus cemetery in the spring.
