Rose Marie Shaheen

Rose Marie Shaheen, 81, of Tupper Lake, passed away peacefully at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, surrounded by her entire family.

She was born April 22, 1932 in Tupper Lake, the daughter of Herbert and Margaret (Margavich) Becker. Rose graduated from Holy Ghost Academy in 1950 and worked at JJ Newberry’s for 10 years.

On Sept. 5, 1960, she married the love of her life, Thomas J. Shaheen at St. Alphonsus church. Rose devoted her life to her husband and raising their eight children. She was a devout Catholic who loved attending mass and praying the rosary daily. She was a loving woman with a caring heart who was always doing for others.

She was well known for her cooking and baking. She enjoyed crocheting, doing crossword puzzles and playing lottery scratch-off tickets. She loved to spend time with her family, especially the many visits she shared with her brother Charles.

Rose is survived by her husband of 53 years; eight children: Anecy Shaheen, Margaret Gaff and her husband Michael, Tina LaVassaur and her husband Mark, Eric and his wife Briggette, Carol Shaheen, Michael and his girlfriend Katie Britt, Rose Peterson and her husband Cecil, Dawn Wright and her husband Scott; 12 grandchildren; four brothers: Albert and his wife Carol, Charles, Robert, Gene and his wife Heloise; and one sister, Margaret Benware.

She was predeceased by her parents and a sister Dorothy Spinner.

Calling hours are scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at St. Alphonsus Church.
