Muriel L. Thatcher

Born Dec. 9, 1923 in Heuvelton, she was the daughter of William and Iva (Backus) Nugent. Muriel attended local schools and married Robert Thatcher on Aug. 16, 1950.

Mrs. Thatcher was employed as a cook at Sunmount VA and later Sunmount DDSO until her retirement in 1983. Muriel was a past member of the Women of the Moose.

She is survived by two daughters: Cheryl Peterson and her husband David of Marietta, Ga. and Susan Rule and her husband Ronald of Tupper Lake and two grandchildren: Michelle Whitaker and Todd Peterson.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1995; one grandson, Dennis Rule, in 2001; two brothers: Walter Nugent and Thomas Nugent; and two sisters: Bernice Nugent and Lyn Slater.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service is scheduled for noon Saturday at Lakeview Cemetery.
