Joseph M. Poissant

He was born in Malone on Dec. 25, 1932 to Moses and Pearl Poissant.

He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy and Albany Law School (1957). Mr. Poissant was a founding member and senior partner with the law firm Poissant, Nichols, Grue, and Vanier.

In 2007, Joe and Anita chose Wilmington, N.C. as their home. Joe was an avid gardener and enjoyed the beauty of nature. He loved to travel, and in retirement played golf both at the Malone Golf Club and his home course in Ft. Myers, Fla. Throughout his life, Joe was active in his church and was a lifetime member of the Malone Lodge of Elks.

He leaves behind his wife Anita; daughters: Christine McGurn (Michael), Margaret Poissant, Cathleen Palczewski (Henry), Michelle Pavlock (Chuck), Lisa Edwards (Wayne), Ellen Poissant and Karen O’Brian (Michael); seven grandchildren: Kimberly McGurn, Nicole Palczewski, C J Pavlock, Shelby Edwards, Trey Edwards, Jessica Pavlock and Cody O’Brian; sisters: Agnes Hamilton, and Connie Bow; brothers: Tim Poissant, Robert Poissant and Richard Poissant; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Michael of Clifton Park, and sister, Theresa of Port St. Lucie, Fla., preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 at Notre Dame Church. Burial will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery.
