Arnold W. Strader

Arnold W. Strader, 78, of Tupper Lake, passed away at his home on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013.

Born on May 10, 1935, in Parishville Center, he was the son of Lawrence and Helen (Stark) Strader. Arnold was a graduate of Parishville Hopkinton Central School and SUNY Canton ATC. In 1958, he was inducted into the U.S. Army serving with the military police being honorably discharged in 1960.

On July 29, 1961, he married the former Sandra Simonette at Holy Name Church in Norwood with Monsignor Frances McGuire officiating.

Arnold joined the New York State Police in 1962. He was stationed most of his career in Tupper Lake and Ray Brook, working through the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid. After his retirement from the state police, Arnold worked construction for Donald E. Kenison and later with RC Becker Contracting.

He was a past member of the Potsdam Elks Club, Tupper Lake Lions Club, Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the New York State PBA and the former Association of the New York State Troopers, Adirondack Chapter.

Arnold enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and vacations in Maine with family members.

He is survived by four children: Scott of Ogdensburg and Kurt, Stacie and Erik, all of Tupper Lake; six grandchildren: Simonne`t, Jaden, Noah, Riley, Kylin and Trista; many nieces and nephews; a brother Donald; and a sister, Carol Galient.

He was pre-deceased by two brothers: Leon and Paul and a nephew, Wayne. Calling hours are scheduled from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18 at Holy Name Church in Tupper Lake. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
