The Skinny: Cool stuff to do this week

Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake will host its production of “Mr. Toad’s Christmas Carol” throughtout the month. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for children under 19 and free for children 5 and under. (Provided photo)

Fiddler in the cafe

I once saw this dude Yannig Tanguy play fiddle at January Jams at the Recovery Lounge in Upper Jay, and he’s a dope performer. Mixing Celtic, American-folk and French-Canadian sounds, Tanguy delivers some impressive fiddle playing. He and his friend Lee Adam are performing at the Left Bank Cafe in Saranac Lake tonight. Check ’em out and enjoy a glass of wine or some escargot while you’re at it.

Evil Santa

Ya’ll know Krampus? Imagine Santa but give him horns, sharp teeth and goat hooves, and that sack he carries isn’t for delivering presents, it’s for kidnapping children. I love the holidays. If you’re looking for a scarier Christmas experience, stop by Hex and Hop Brewery in Bloomingdale on Dec. 21 at 4 p.m. for beer, games, prizes, performers, revelry and fire.

The wind in the firs

Trivia question: What’s the best defunct ride at Disney World? That’s right, it’s Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. While we can no longer ride jalopies to hell and back, Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake is offering a holiday celebration with its production of “Mr. Toad’s Christmas Carol” Dec. 14 at 5 p.m., Dec. 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m., and Dec. 15, 21 and 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets $15 for adults and $10 for under 19 years old.

Take a stroll

Lake Placid’s Holiday Village Stroll starts this week, so that means there’s a whole bunch of fun to be had. Stop by the 1932 Jack Shea Arena at 5 p.m. Friday for an open-ice skate then head on over to either The Cottage, Taste Bistro or Delta Blue for live music.

On Saturday, Santa comes to town. He’ll be eating breakfast at the Hotel North Woods at 8:30 a.m., and then he’ll be on a fire truck at Mid’s Park at noon.

Sunday, break out your best Santa cosplay and head on over to the Whiteface Mountain Ski Center and get a free lift ticket.
