Teen art camps

Good grief. I can’t be the only person who is hearing that there is nothing to do (insert a lot of eye-rolling). This is coming from visiting children, not even my own. I glance at my friend and I gesture that when my kids ever mentioned being bored, I would make them clean the house. The offer is now extended beyond my immediate family.

Competing against video games is challenging. I still fight that battle and lose quite a few times. When I do hear the rumblings of a revolt, I like to have a list of options available for the older kids.

Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake is getting ready to perform their Camp Pendragon production of “Marry Poppins 2.” These students pull together an incredible show each year. The production is perfect for all ages, but it’s also an opportunity to bring teens to see the outcome of a Pendragon theatre camp. The cast and crew always welcome the opportunity to share their experience with other potential theatre lovers. Call 518-891-1854 for performance times.

Missoula Children’s Theatre (grades 1-12) at Lake Placid Center for the Arts, will host a camp July 22-27. The weeklong theatre intensive offers an opportunity for all ages to participate in live theatre. Call LPCA 518-523-2512.

Camp LPCA. There are still spots open for kids of all ages to participate in a variety of workshops, dance, and art camps. Teens should take note of the puppet making (not your finger puppet variety but shadow, rod, and hand puppets) Camp Rock, and Teen Improv. Call LPCA at 518-523-2512.

BluSeed Studios in Saranac Lake offers art classes year-round, including ceramics, papermaking, and printmaking. There are also live performances and Open Mike Nights. Call BluSeed at 518-891-3799.

Lake Placid Center for the Arts FREE Young and Fun Series, Every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. through Aug. 7 at LPCA Main Stage, 17 Algonquin Ave. This does attract a younger crowd, but the free performances are fun for all ages.

Tupper Arts is offering teen arts camps. There are three different art options include acrylic painting, graffiti, and mosaics. Option include registering for an individual class or all three. Call 518-359-5042.

Of course, there are always plenty of outside activities to fill up the day. As a last resort, my offer to provide a house to clean is also always available. Enjoy!
