ADK Jazz will perform Saturday at Keene Valley church

KEENE VALLEY — ADK Jazz kicks off the month of June in Keene Valley with a concert that swings from Gershwin to Cole Porter and back again.

They will host a concert Saturday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Keene Valley Congregational Church.

The five-piece “black-tie ensemble” will bring alive the sounds of the greats: Gershwin, Arlen, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Berlin, Porter. Helen Demong, the well-known founder and director of the Northern Lights Choir, fronts the group with her warm and lush vocals.

She is joined by world-class instrumentalists Wayne Davison (sax), Steve Collier (piano), Danny Gagliardi (bass) and Brendan Coyle (drums), all of whom have vast experience.

One of the region’s best-kept musical secrets, ADK Jazz has played at upscale private venues, and high end private parties, but among their favorite events are community-based First Night in Saranac Lake and local park concerts.

Pianist Steve Collier has worked as a soloist and accompanist for classical and jazz musicians and musical groups throughout the Northeast. He spent 33 years as a vocal music teacher at Au Sable Valley Central School.

Saxophonist Wayne Davison has been playing professionally for 35 years, including with Natalie Cole, Rich Little, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Box Tops, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, Rob McConnell, and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra.

Brendan Coyle has studied with world-class drummers such as Ritchie Moralles and John Riley and played in bands ranging from Jazz Combos to Funk to Celtic Rock. Brendan has earned a reputation as a versatile, technically skilled, and tasteful musician.

Danny Gagliardi plays upright bass with countless groups in all styles and genres. His true passion lies in the freedom of expression found in jazz.

This concert is made possible, in part, with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.

The concert is sponsored by East Branch Friends of the Arts.

The suggested donation is $10, and students are free.
