Healthy eating April 18

SARANAC LAKE – Carl Bowen, the director of nutritional services at Adirondack Medical Center will present “Today’s Perspectives on Healthy Eating”” at the next Library Lunch program at the Saranac Lake Free Library at noon Thursday, April 18.

Since joining the staff of AMC in 2013, Bowen has made an effort to include as much fresh, local food as possible into the daily menu for both patients and staff. Choosing fresh food rather than processed foods from cans or mixes, Bowen explains, not only provides more nutrients but it also limits the amount of sodium in the diet, as frequently recommended by doctors for patients with cardiac or renal problems.

Before taking his current position, Bowen was the food service and operations director at Mountain Lake Academy.

He went to Lake Placid High School, and studied Culinary Arts at SUNY Cobleskill.

All presentations of the Library Lunch Series are free and open to the public. Bring soup or a sandwich if you like, and desserts and beverages will be served, compliments of the Refreshment Committee.
