Towne Meeting Saturday at Will Rogers

SARANAC LAKE – Towne Meeting, a four-member ensemble, will perform folk, Americana and acoustic rock will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Saranac Village at Will Rogers.

Described as “the complete package with a wonderful sound and a terrific sense of humor,” Towne Meeting has been received throughout the region for several years, including at Saranac Lake’s First Night 2015.

Formed in 2006, Towne Meeting features vocalists and guitarists Dennis Hulbert, Miles Moody and Gary VanCour on vocals, guitar, ukulele and percussion with John Kains on base and vocals.

According to Gary VanCour, “Three of us were heavily influenced by the folk era of the 1960s, so we like to play some of the old standards of that time along with more recent tunes. Towne is an old New England name that is part of the family lineage. Every year there would be a Towne family reunion, which usually would end up with guitars and sing-a-longs. It seemed appropriate to name the band Towne Meeting as it symbolizes folks coming together and having a good time.”

Towne Meeting’s first CD, entitled “Stillwater was released in 2008 and continues to be a top seller. It includes several familiar songs as well as original works. The group’s second album, “A Christmas World,” was released in 2009 and features holiday favorites and traditional carols. Their third CD, “Looking Back,” was released in 2010. Their 2013 “Live in Concert” CD is a compilation of songs recorded at various performances.

“Most of all we really enjoy singing and playing as a group and have a lot of fun with it,” Dennis Hulbert said. “We especially enjoy doing live performances. That camaraderie is very apparent when we are on stage.”

“Journeys,” their most recent CD, was released this past fall.

This program is open to the public and a $5 donation is requested. CDs will be available for purchase.
