Altman’s ‘and Here We Are!’ on display through October at Guild

SARANAC LAKE – Jacqueline H. Altman is the featured artist at the Adirondack Artists Guild during the month of October. Her show, “and Here We Are!” consists of watercolor paintings done outdoors, for which she is well known.

“When I am painting en plein air, the color and patterns of light and dark keep changing as the light, the clouds, and the atmosphere play across the landscape, the light almost painting the picture for me,” Altman said.

“I use brushstrokes to capture the immediacy of the moment and the movement of light and dark across the subject matter.

“I do very little drawing or sketching before applying colors to the painting surface. A few pencils lines will indicate where the horizon line might be and the placement of a few objects. I prefer to use the brushstrokes to define shapes and create the forms brought to life in the finished painting. The composition evolves as I paint.

“With plein air painting, I try to share the experience of being there with the viewer ‘and Here We Are!'”

The exhibit opened with a reception on Friday, Oct. 7, and will close on Nov. 1.
