This weekend at Delta Blue: Zip City and Gina Sicilia Band

LAKE PLACID – Delta Blue will host two bands this weekend: Zip City on Friday and the Gina Sicilia Band on Saturday.

Both evenings will be from 9 to midnight.

Zip City has been swinging the blues from up north since the 1990s. Noted for their hard driving Jump Blues, and Chicago Style, they cross over easily into Swing, Country Swing and, sometimes a little Rockabilly.

The band likes to say that they “blew in off the road,” as they’re all veterans of many bands, many genres, over many years. Jeff Rendinaro, vocals, harmonica, guitar, from New York City, met Eric O’Hara, vocals, guitar, pedal steel, back in the 1990s. They formed the acoustic duo that grew into Zip City. Bass player Billy Blough has always been the bass player for George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers. When Bill is on tour, veteran bassist Lloyd Peterson takes over. From the Apollo theater in Yew York, all the way to the Chitlin’ Circuit, Lloyd lays it down. When drummer Brian Osborne left Boston and moved up North, Zip City snatched him up right away. Just another Berkley guy, gone bad, lost to the blues.

Zip City is a classic jump blues band, featuring harmonica, guitar, bass, and drums, with the rock n’ rollin’ boogie woogie beat of the ’50s, and with a real weakness for that steel guitar swing.

Gina Sicilia has been wowing audiences across the globe throughout her decade-long career, with no plans of slowing down anytime soon. Considered a true rising star in the blues world, her debut album, Allow Me to Confess, brought her worldwide acclaim and a Blues Music Award nomination for Best New Artist. This accomplished singer, songwriter and performer continues to demonstrate a powerful work ethic and passion for her craft.

On her sixth studio release, “Sunset Avenue” (EP), Sicilia manages to raise the bar even higher. Recorded in her native Philadelphia by Grammy-winning producer Glenn Barratt, the album showcases her inimitable, distinct vocals. Her emotional cross genres, with echoes of soul, roots, and even Americana woven throughout the tapestry of sound she’s created on the new collection.

Despite the accolades, Sicilia considers her music a restless work in progress.

“I see myself as always evolving, reaching for a new place where I want my music to be and a way I want it to sound,” she said. “I don’t know if I’ll find that place, but I’ll never stop searching.”
