Library’s Come to the Fair sale Aug. 2-4

SARANAC LAKE – “Read! Recycle! Refresh!” is the theme for the 61st annual Come to the Fair, offering hundreds of hardcover and paperback books for sale -for adults, young adults and children – along with DVDs, CDs, puzzles, games and baked goods.

The sale will be held in the Thomas B. Cantwell Community Room of the Saranac Lake Free Library, 109 Main St.

Fair hours

The fair will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, Wednesday, Aug. 3 and Thursday, Aug. 4.

Special books – select books in all categories – including Adirondack books, recent fiction and nonfiction, art books and coffee table books are featured in the Dickert Room.

The Community Room will be filled with books in all categories, including fiction and nonfiction-and puzzles and games.

There will be cookies, cakes, rolls, sweetbreads and more available at the Bakery Cafe. Treats will be sold opening day until all items are gone.

The Unique Boutique will feature vintage linens, dresser/boudoir boxes, small crystal pieces, scarves, evening and leather purses, giftware and costume jewelry.

Adirondack Crafts will include quilts, needlework, knitwear, fine art and home decor creations.

Adirondack books

The Adirondack Research Room will sell duplicate Adirondack books, pamphlets, magazines and calendars in the Dickert Room during Members Night and throughout the sale.

Ice Palace photographs will be for sale, along with individual ice palace prints.

Members Night

A special opening for those who have contributed to the 2016 Membership Campaign at the supporting $40 level or higher will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, as a thank you for generous yearly support of the library.

Fair volunteers

The Fair Committee, coordinated by Gloria Drucker, includes Holly Huber, cashiers; Peter and Trish Lukens, treasurers.

Also, Liz Johnson, Siobhan Crary and Linda Jackson, Bakery Cafe; Barbara Plumadore, Chris Bettner and Judy Kratts, Unique Boutique and Adirondack Crafts; Merle Smith, Jean Baltzly and Karen Smith, mass market paperbacks; Janet Lorenzo, Mary & Jim Abendroth, Marty Rowley, Bobbie Leamer and Don Morgan, Community Room books; Donna Fulkerson, young adult and children’s books; Joy Harvey, special books; Emily Warner, CDs and DVDs.

Other volunteers are Diane Peterson, poster distribution; Merle Smith, Community Room posters; and many others.

Fair donations

We are no longer accepting books for this sale in order to give the committee time to sort the books. Books will be accepted again starting on Aug. 29.

High-quality costume jewelry (or silver and gold) and Adirondack Crafts are accepted anytime the library is open.

Unique Boutique items may be brought to the Community Room from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 30.

Baked goods will be received after 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, opening day.

Puzzles and games, accepted anytime, should be complete with boxes taped.

Book Prices

Adult hardcover books will sell for $2, trade paperbacks $1.50 and mass market paperbacks $1. Young adult hard covers can be purchased for $2.00 and soft covers $1. Children’s hardcovers will sell for $1, soft covers 50 cents, CDs and DVDs $1.50. Special books will be individually priced. The third day many books will be sold at half price.

Adirondack quilt

Tickets can be purchased during the event on “Adirondack Splendor,” a pieced, appliqued and hand-quilted wall hanging created by the Cabin Fever Quilters. Blocks feature Adirondack wildlife and flora surrounded by log cabin blocks.

Community event

For 61 years, Come to the Fair has been a community event that involves hundreds of people who contribute items, bake their specialties, set up and volunteer at the sale, and, of course, Come to the Fair.

All proceeds benefit the Saranac Lake Free Library.
