LPCA’s Young and Fun series kicks off July 6

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Center for the Arts presents a summer full of arts for all ages.

The Free Young and Fun Performance Series is dedicated to bringing the best entertainment for all ages to Lake Placid.

The series will run every Wednesday from July 6 until Aug. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts.

There is no charge for performances.

The Young & Fun performance series is generously sponsored in Dr. David J. Balestrini at Lake Placid Family Dental.

The 2016 Young & Fun Performance Series includes:

July 6 at 10:30 a.m. – Tim Dumas Comedy & Magic. For over 20 years, Dumas has been making children and adults laugh throughout the United States and Canada. All of his performances are high energy magic and comedy.

July 13 at 10:30 a.m. – Stephen Gratto Variety Show. Gratto is not your typical performer. High school physics teacher and principal by day, Gratto moonlights as a physical comedian and more. His performances are fast-paced and exciting displays of many classic vaudeville and circus skills including juggling, unicycling, rope walking, object balancing, and many other feats of daring, bravery, and side-splitting foolishness.

July 20 at 10:30 a.m. – “Wizard Academy!” The bumbling Professor Hackensneeze makes a visit from the Hogwarts Academy to teach kids (and their Muggles) the Secrets of their Powers. This loony Professor of Wizardry leads children on a zany and mystical day-in-the-life of a Wizard In Training (W.I.T). Magic potion recipes, wand etiquette, slapstick antics, talking Trolls and a visit from his furry Sidekick Mortimer are all hallmarks of this great family-friendly show. Children encouraged to come in costume.

July 27 at 10:30 a.m – “The Ugly Duckling.” The Hans Christian Andersen classic comes to life with an operatic twist. The newly composed children’s opera is sung by Seagle Music Colony’s touring troupe. Adapted from the Hans Christian Anderson fairy-tale, this newly composed children’s opera by Andrew Duncan contains an important message for young viewers – acceptance. This show is sung in English with relatable characters,.

Aug. 3 at 10:30 a.m. – Gary the Great. Back for another year, magician Gary the Great presents his high energy blast of magic, comedy, and storytelling. His performance gets everyone involved, with demonstrations of mentalism, close-up magic, and stage illusions. Ever since presenting his first trick for kindergarten show-and-tell (and he still performs that trick!), Gary has fallen in love with the theatricality of magic. As a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, Gary has served as a magic consultant for national television commercials and New York theater companies

Aug. 10 at 10:30 a.m. – Secret Agent 23 Skidoo. More Fraggles than Wiggles, more Soul Train than Thomas the Train, 23 Skidoo is equal parts Dr. Seuss and Dr. Dre! The core of 23 Skidoo’s music is the celebration of creativity, exploration, adventure and especially diversity. A sworn defender of the wild and weird, he takes families on cerebral vacations into realms of crazy imagination backed by thumping basslines and heavy horn sections that wear out the dance floor.
